Program Evaluation
In 2007-2008 The Power to Change for Corrections peer-to-peer, cognitive-restructuring, self-help program was used as part of Los Angeles-based Special Services Groups' and project DIRECT’s array of transitional services for inmates at Los Angeles County's Twin Towers Correctional Facility, during incarceration and following release.
Over an 18-month period, the program was so successful in the pod where it was delivered that there was almost a total elimination of violence in the pod, despite turnover of more than 300 individuals cycling through.
The Power to Change for Corrections played a major role in this success with the prisoners by directly addressing the combined issues of:
- Impulse control;
- Anger management;
- Attitude adjustment; and
- Concern for the group
through examining the immediate experiences of current daily life.
